View student access expiration dates
The roster shows expiration dates for students whose course access duration is shorter than the full length of the course. Upon enrollment students might be offered:
- Reduced-price access for a limited time.
- Temporary course access without payment for a limited time. Students waiting for financial aid, for example, can start their coursework and avoid missing deadlines. Temporary access requests are completed within 24-48 hours. Student might not receive an email to tell them when access is granted. If the request cannot be completed within 24-48 hours, students will receive an email to tell them access can't be granted or is delayed beyond normal time.
Expiration dates do not show in the roster for students with full course access.
- If available in your course, select Manage Course from the main menu, and then select Course Roster or in Mastering, Roles and Enrollment Status.
(In some courses, select Course Roster under Course Tools.)
- To find a student in the Name column, type a few letters of the student's name or email address in the search field . (Select Show All to clear your search results.) You can also choose the first letter of the student’s last name in the alphabetical list.
If a student's course access is active:
- The expiration date displays in red below the student's name, for example:
Access expires on: Sep 20, 2024. (for reduced-price access)
Temporary course access expires on: Dec 20, 2024. (for temporary access)
- During a temporary access period, you can't change the student's role to teaching assistant.

- The student's entire row is disabled, preventing changes to the student’s role or status.
- The student still sees your course in their course list but can't access your course content or their coursework.
- Students are notified by email before their temporary access expires. The email includes a direct link to a payment page where students can change temporary access to full access.
- Students should use their existing username and password from temporary access. Do not create a new account when upgrading access.
- Once students pay for full access, their status becomes active again and they get access to their coursework.
- Student instructions to upgrade from temporary to full access:
- For courses integrated with an LMS (such as Blackboard, Canvas, D2L Brightspace, Moodle, Sakai, or Schoology)
- For courses not integrated with an LMS
