Resume or retake an incomplete test or quiz

If you leave an assigned test or quiz without submitting it, it is incomplete. Whether you can resume your test or quiz depends on your course:

• In some courses, you can go back and work on an incomplete test or quiz, but you may need permission from your instructor.
• In some courses, the answers from your interrupted test are not saved and you have to begin a new test. Starting a new test or quiz does not affect the number of attempts you've made. If an interrupted test was your second attempt at the test, for instance, the retake is still your second attempt.

Resuming a test or quiz on your own

1. Go to the Homework and Tests page. The word "incomplete" appears in the Attempts column for the interrupted test or quiz.
2. Click the test or quiz link to continue taking the test. All your answers so far are still there.

   If you are not allowed back into the test, the Restricted Access Incomplete Test message box appears with instructions. In this case, you can resume or retake the test with your instructor’s permission.

3. Click Submit Test when you have finished.

Resuming or retaking a test with your instructor’s permission

1. Go to the Homework and Tests page. The word "incomplete" appears in the Attempts column for the test or quiz.
2. Click the link for the incomplete test or quiz. The Restricted Access Incomplete Test message box appears.

   If you are not allowed to try again, the message tells you to ask your instructor for permission to continue taking the incomplete test.

   If the test allows multiple attempts and you have at least one attempt remaining, the message offers you the additional option to start a new test without permission. Click Start a new test if you want to take a new version of the test and have it count as a new test attempt.

3. To continue with the incomplete test, contact your instructor. If your instructor allows you back in to the test, the words "retake allowed" appear in the Attempts column for the test or quiz on the Homework and Tests page.
4. Click the test or quiz link to continue taking the test. All your answers to date are still there.
5. Click Submit Test when you have finished.
