Change enrollment status to inactive or active
Updated 19 Feb 2024
After students enroll in your course, their course enrollment status is active. You can change the enrollment status for students from active to inactive, or from inactive to active.
You can't change the enrollment status for a student whose temporary access is expired. If the student pays for full course access, the Status setting is available again. If the student never pays for full access, the student remains with a Status of inactive.
- Select Manage Course, then Roles and Enrollment Status.
- In the Name column, find the student you want to make inactive. You can scroll or do either of the following:
- In the search box, enter the first few letters of the student's name or email address.
- In the letter bar, select the first letter of the last name.
- For Status, select Active and then select Inactive.
- Select close to go back to the list.
The student's row is highlighted to indicate a change.
- Change the status for any additional students, if needed.
- Select Save to apply changes to all highlighted rows in the list.
- The student has dropped the course.
- The student plans to enroll in a different section of the same course (with a different course ID) in the same course term.
If the student has completed any work in this course:
Consider exporting the student's scores to pass along to the instructor of the other course section.
Students with inactive status don't appear in the Gradebook unless you filter your view. To do this, select Filter and choose Show inactive/suspended students?
- Select Manage Course, then Roles and Enrollment Status.
- In the Name column, find the student you want to make active. You can scroll or do either of the following:
- In the search box, enter the first few letters of the student's name or email address.
- In the letter bar, click the first letter of the last name.
- For Status, select Inactive and then select Active.
- Select close to go back to the list.
The student's row is highlighted to indicate a change.
- Select Save to apply changes to all highlighted rows in the list.
Once students can access the course again, they can see any prior work and scores, as allowed by your assignment settings.
