Roles in course groups
Updated 21 May 2024
The roles in a course group are:
- Coordinator instructor: Creates the coordinator course and is the primary instructor for all member sections. The coordinator instructor owns all member sections and uses the coordinator course to manage the features and content inherited by the member sections.
- Section instructor: Teaches a member section but has restricted access to the course, as specified by the coordinator instructor.
Section instructors enroll in a member section with a section instructor access code. In some cases, students can be promoted to section instructor.
- Teaching assistant (TA): Teaches a member section when promoted from student to TA by the instructor. TAs have limited access privileges defined by the instructor. This role is available only in MyLab and Mastering courses.

A section instructor's role and capabilities within a member section depend on status (instructor or student) and on the level of access granted by the coordinator instructor. The following table shows default section instructor access if the coordinator instructor has not set custom access levels.
