Course deletion
You can delete an archived course. (The MyLab archives a course at 11:59 p.m. on the course's end date in the course's time zone.) Because a deleted course cannot be recovered, it is important to understand what happens to a deleted course's Gradebook, student access, and linked courses.
- When a course is deleted, its assignments, announcements, and Gradebook are also deleted. If you want to keep the assignments, you can create a copy of the course. Or, if you want to keep a record of the Gradebook, you can export or print the results before you delete the course.
Note: The deletion of assignments includes the removal of all student submissions for the assignments, and all submissions marked up with your comments (including audio comments) and grades. However, any comments you saved as My Comments remain available.
- For students who still have a valid access code (subscription) to the course, the following will occur:
- During the grace period (see Course deletion timeline), these students can continue to work in the course but without your involvement.
- When the course is permanently removed, the MyLab moves these students into a default version of the course (one that has not been customized) where they can work on their own. These students' exercise results move with them.
- Any course linked to the deleted course is unlinked, and you can customize the course's Resources.
Note: Any files that you uploaded using the File Manager for the deleted course are not lost. They are still in your account space, and you can post them in other courses.
Course deletion timeline
When you delete a course, it enters a grace period of 30 days. During the grace period:
- You cannot see or access the course.
- Student who have a valid access code (subscription) for the course can continue to work in the course but without your involvement.
- When students enter the course, it displays a message explaining that the course is in the process of being deleted and that they can export their assignment documents and Gradebook scores.
At the end of the grace period:
- The MyLab moves any students who still have valid subscriptions into a default version of course, as explained above.
- The course is permanently removed.
