You need the image's website address (e.g., http://www.website.com/image_folder/image.jpg) to perform this procedure.
- Click where you want to place the image in the document.
- Click .
The Insert/Edit Image dialog box opens.
- Enter the Image URL (the image's website address).
If the image doesn't display, the website you are linking to may be on a server that is case sensitive. Make sure the address you entered uses the same capitalization as the image's website and file name.
- (Optional) Enter the remaining information on General tab as needed. Click this link to display descriptions of the General options.
Image description: Enter the image's alternative text. (The alternative text is displayed when the image cannot be displayed, and screen readers read an image's alternative text.)
Title: Enter the text that will display in a pop-up when you place the mouse pointer on the image. If you do not enter a title, the Image description is displayed instead.
- (Optional) Click the Appearance tab and enter the settings you want. When you enter a setting, the image in the upper-right of the dialog box shows the setting's effect. Click this link to display descriptions of the Appearance settings.
Alignment: Select an option from the drop-down list to specify the alignment of the image with the surrounding text.
Dimensions: Enter a height and/or width dimension for the image in pixels.
Constrain Proportions: Select this option to maintain the image's ratio of height to width regardless of the Dimensions you enter.
Vertical space: Enter the amount of space, in pixels, you want between the top and bottom of the image and any text or other images above and below the image.
Horizontal space: Enter the amount of space, in pixels, you want between the left and right side of the image and any text or other images to either side of the image.
Border: Add a border to the image by entering a border width in pixels. You can change the border color in the Style setting, below.
Class: The composing space does not support the Class setting at this time.
Style: Displays the code for the specified options. You can edit the Style. For example, if the Style's border setting is "border: black 3px solid," you can change it to "border: red 3px solid" to create a red border.
Note: The composing space does not support the settings on the Advanced tab at this time.
- Click the Insert button to place the image in the document.
A linked image is updated as the image on the remote website is updated. Also, a linked image can disappear if the image's location on the remote website is changed. If you want to prevent this from happening, you can remove the link. See Edit an image for more information.
