View student access expiration dates
Updated 20 Nov 2023
The roster shows expiration dates for students whose course access duration is shorter than the full length of the course. Upon enrollment students might be offered:
- Reduced-price access for a limited time.
- Temporary course access without payment for a limited time. Students waiting for financial aid, for example, can start their coursework and avoid missing deadlines. Temporary access requests are completed within 24-48 hours. Students might not receive an email to tell them when access is granted. If the request cannot be completed within 24-48 hours, they will receive an email to tell them access can't be granted or is delayed beyond normal time.
Expiration dates do not show in the roster for students with full course access.
View student access expiration dates
- Select the enrolled number for the course on the My Courses page. For example, Enrolled: 10.
- To find a student in the Name column of the roster, type a few letters of the student's name or email address in the search field. (Select Show All to clear your search results.) You can also choose the first letter of the student’s last name in the alphabetical list.
If a student's course access is active:
- The expiration date displays in red below the student's name, for example:
Access expires on: Dec 20, 2024 (for reduced-price access)
Temporary course access expires on: Sep 18, 2024 (for temporary access)
- During the temporary access period, the student's role can't be changed to teaching assistant.
- Students see an alert message on the course tile in My Courses and receive reminder emails with payment instructions before access expires.
If a student's access is inactive and has expired:
- The expired date displays in red below the student's name, for example:
Access expired on: Dec 20, 2024 (for reduced-price access)
Temporary course access expired on: Sep 18, 2024 (for temporary access)
- The student's entire row is disabled, preventing changes to the student’s role or status.
- The student still sees your course in their course list, but can't access your course content or their coursework.
How students with expired temporary access rejoin your course
- Students are notified by email before their temporary access expires. The email includes a direct link to a payment page where students can change temporary access to full access.
- Once students pay for full access, their status becomes active again and they get back access to their coursework.
- Student instructions to upgrade from temporary to full access:
- For courses integrated with an LMS (such as Blackboard, Canvas, D2L Brightspace, Moodle, Sakai, or Schoology)
- For courses not integrated with an LMS
