Create voice recording activities

You can create audio activities using the Blackboard Voice Tool that appears on the content editor toolbar when you add questions to an activity.

You can insert an audio recording into questions for any activity type, including discussions.

To insert voice recordings into questions for activities:

  1. Add or edit an activity and add activity details.
  2. Select basic/random for the activity's behavioral mode. You cannot change the behavioral mode when editing activities.
  3. Click Save and Continue to add questions to the activity.
    1. Click Add Questions, and then click Create New Question.
    2. Click Essay as the question type.
    3. Enter a Question title for this activity.
    4. Enter any written instructions or information for students in the content editor.
    5. Click the record audio icon in the content editor that appears.
    6. When asked "Do you want to run this application" click Run. A Record Audio window opens.
    7. Click the record button (red circle) to begin recording. Click the stop button (black square) when you finish the recording.
    8. Click Save and Close to save the recording and close the voice recorder.

      A play icon appears in the body of the question, below any text you entered.

    9. Scroll down and click Add Text Settings
    10. Enter the Maximum score for this question.
    11. Click Text Settings and then select Accept Audio Input. This option lets your students respond using the same recording process you used to record your question. If you don't select this option, students can respond in writing but not using audio.
    12. Enter the Maximum length of Time in minutes and seconds (MM:SS) students can record a response. The maximum response length is five minutes.
    13. If you want students to respond in writing as well as audio, click Accept Text Inputs and enter the Number of words in answer and Number of lines in input area.
  4. Add HelpLinks to the activity.
  5. Add messages to the activity.
  6. Define the activity's grade schema.
  7. Add links to additional resource materials if you want.
  8. Provide activity feedback.
  9. Click Save and Return.
  10. If prompted, locate the folder in which you want to store the activity and then click Add and Close.
  11. Add the activity to your course.
  12. Set the activity's preferences.
