Work with SI notation
Updated 28 Aug 2023
If your textbook uses the International System of Units (SI notation), students must enter answers with spaces between the periods:
SI notation: 10 000 000
Guidelines when using SI notation in question text:
- Use commas instead of spaces when you define numeric algorithmic values and short answers. Your commas automatically convert to spaces when the question is used in a textbook that uses SI notation.
- However, use spaces instead of commas in all other parts of the Custom Question Builder if you create questions for a textbook that uses SI notation. For example, use spaces in the question-and-answer areas of the Custom Question Builder interface and when entering values for multiple-choice, true/false, and essay answers.
When you preview or print a question, you can choose what number format to use. See Preview custom questions for details.
