Preview custom questions
Updated 28 Aug 2023
When you finish creating a custom question, preview the question to see it as your students will.
- From the Assignment Manager (Homework/Test Manager) in your course.
This method of previewing is recommended because custom questions are created in Flash but most new courses use the new, mobile-friendly HTML5 player. To ensure that your custom questions display correctly, view them from Assignment Manager, where you can see how they display in the new player.
- From the Custom Question Manager: Find the question in the table, select Preview from the Actions dropdown list, and click Go.
- From the Custom Question Builder: With the question open, click Preview Exercise in the toolbar.
At the top of the player, you can choose language settings for viewing or printing the question:
- Number format: Lets you select the characters used to separate periods and decimal places in numbers. The US format is the default choice (a comma separates periods; a period separates decimal places). You also can choose whether to use periods between periods in numbers and commas for decimals (e.g., 1.234,56) or SI notation with spaces (e.g., 1 234.56).
- Language: Lets you display the question in one of these languages: en-gb is British English; en-us is American English; es-mx is Mexican Spanish; pt-br is Brazilian Portuguese.
These settings apply only when you preview or print a question. Numbers automatically convert to the appropriate number format when the question is used in a textbook that uses the format. (For more information, see Work with SI notation.)
