Manually grade questions in the student player
You can manually grade students' work on Show Work questions and essays in the player. After you manually enter a score, the student cannot rework the question.
- Open the assignment in review mode in the player:
- In the Gradebook, select the Work needs grading alert.
- In the Assignments view of the gradebook or on a student's Results page, select the red exclamation point (!) in the Score column for the test you want to grade.
- The player opens and displays the student's work. If any part of the question was scored automatically, this score shows beneath the question.
- Enter the student's grade.
If the grade is less than the total point value, the student gets partial credit.
- Select Submit grade.
- Select Next to grade the next question in the assignment.
Essays can be either an entire question or a component of a question:
- Essay questions are not scored automatically, so scores are incomplete until you enter grades.
- Questions containing an essay component are scored automatically. Students receive full credit for entering any text as the essay, but you can manually adjust the score.
To grade an essay:
- Open the assignment in review mode in the player:
- In the Gradebook, select the Work needs grading alert.
- In the Assignments view of the gradebook or on a student's Results page, select the red exclamation point (!) in the Score column for the test you want to grade.
- The player opens and displays the student's work.
- Select Show sample answer to see a sample correct answer.
- Review the student's essay and enter a score in points in
the Grade box. The total point
value of the essay question shows to the right of the box.
If the grade is less than the total point value, the student gets partial credit. If you enter a zero, the question is marked incorrect.
If a student answers all questions for a given objective correctly on the test, including at least 70% on all related essay questions, the objective is shown as mastered in the student's Study Plan.
- Select Submit grade.
- Select Next question
to grade the next essay question on the test or Go to next/previous student.
The navigation skips students with changed test scores because you cannot enter an essay score after changing the test score.
