Set prerequisites
You can specify prerequisite tests that students must complete before they can take another test.
If you specify a test as a prerequisite after students have completed it, those students' current results determine whether they have met the prerequisite.
By grouping a series of tests that increase in difficulty, you can use prerequisites to accurately determine the most appropriate courses for student enrollment. See Create a test group with prerequisites for details.
You cannot select an adaptive test as a prerequisite, but you can specify prerequisites for adaptive tests.
- When you create or edit a test, you can choose its prerequisites:
- For an existing test, go to the Test Manager and select Actions > Settings for Class for the test.
- Under Access Controls, Prerequisites, select Change to add or edit prerequisites for the test.
This option is available in step 3, Settings, when you create a test.
- Follow the steps in the sections below, depending on the type of prerequisites you want to set.
- From the Test Manager, select More Tools > Set Prerequisites.
The tests for which you can set a prerequisite are listed on the right.
- Make sure Basic is selected.
- From the Prerequisite Item list for each test, select the name of the prerequisite test.
- In the Minimum Score box, optionally enter the percent minimum score that students must achieve to satisfy each prerequisite.
- To create a test group, check the boxes on the left for the tests and select Group.
- Select Update Prerequisites to set the prerequisites.
- Select Review Due Dates & Assigned Status to make sure your prerequisites are available to students before the test due date.
- Select Done to return to the Test Manager.
- From the Test Manager, select More Tools > Set Prerequisites.
The tests for which you can set a prerequisite are listed on the right.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select the box under Multiple Prereqs to choose multiple prerequisites for a test.
- From the Prerequisite Item list for each test, select the prerequisite tests.
When you select a prerequisite, a new list appears so can add as many prerequisites as you want. All of these prerequisites will be required before the student can work on the test.
- In the Minimum Score box, optionally enter the percent minimum score that students must achieve to satisfy each prerequisite.
- From the For this Attempt list, optionally choose which test attempt triggers the prerequisite requirement. (This list does not appear if you do not allow multiple attempts at the test.)
- Select Update Prerequisites to set the prerequisites.
- Select Review Due Dates & Assign Status to make sure your prerequisites are available to students before the test due date.
- Select Done to return to the Test Manager.
- From the Test Manager, select More Tools > Set Prerequisites.

- Select Advanced Settings.
- In the Assignment column of the table, locate the test for which you want to set prerequisites.
- To specify one or more alternate prerequisites for the test, select the box under Multiple Prereqs.
The page refreshes and an OR heading appears under Prerequisite Item with an Add alternate prerequisites link.
- From the Prerequisite Item list, select the name of a prerequisite test.

- Select Add alternate prerequisites.

Students are required to do either all the prerequisites from the lists above the OR heading or all of the prerequisites from under the OR heading.
- In the Minimum Score box, optionally enter the percent minimum score that students must achieve to satisfy each prerequisite.
- From the For this Attempt list, optionally choose which attempt at the test triggers the prerequisite requirement. (This list does not appear if you do not allow multiple attempts at the test.)
- Select Update Prerequisites to set the prerequisites.
- Select Review Due Dates & Assigned Status to make sure your prerequisites are available to students before the test due date.
- Select Done to return to the Test Manager.
