Graph absolute value functions

You can plot two points to graph absolute value functions.

Plot absolute value functions

To plot absolute value functions:

1. Click the absolute value tool .

2. In the graph, click where you want to locate the vertex of your absolute value function.

3. Move your cursor to another point on the absolute value function.

   As you move the cursor, temporary lines appear so you see what your final graph will look like.

4. When your cursor is on the second point, click on the point.

   Your completed absolute value function appears and is selected.

Select absolute value functions

To select a line or point in an absolute value function:

1. Click the selection tool .
2. Click the line or point.

   If your line is selected, the points you plotted are blue and the line is orange. When a point is selected, the point is orange.

Change an absolute value function

To change or delete a line or point in an absolute value function, first select it.

Move a selected line in one of these ways:

• Drag the line to the new position.
• Press Shift plus an arrow key to move the line up, down, left, or right.

Change a selected point in one of these ways:

• Drag the point to the new position.
• If your instructor allows it, you can click Edit Coordinates at the top of the large grapher or below the graph in the small grapher. Enter the new coordinates in the popup window and click Submit.

Delete a selected line in an absolute value function in one of these ways:

• On the large grapher, press Delete on your keyboard.
• On the small grapher, click Delete.
