Step 2: Name your course

When creating a new or prebuilt course, or copying or linking to a course, you use this page to enter a course title, section name, start and end dates, and time zone.

For both instructors and students, the course title and section name are displayed on a course's Home page and My Courses page.

By default, student access to the course is dictated by the course start date. However, if you want to customize the course before letting students start work, you can make the course unavailable to them in the next Course Builder step. Then when you are ready, you can change the course setting and allow students access.

When setting the end date, keep in mind that Pearson archives a course on its end date at 11:59 p.m. (Students' access to your course is dictated by the course start date and the end date of their access code. Because an access code is valid for at least 12 months, students can continue to work in a course as long as their access code is valid, which may be past the course's end date. However, these students are working in the course on their own; there is no instructor involvement in their work past the course's end date.)

The time zone affects the cutoff time for assignment due dates, when assignment submissions are flagged as late in the Gradebook, and the time at which the course is archived. See Your course's time zone for more information.
