Create a prebuilt course

A prebuilt course already has assignments and may also have required Resources, course documents, and a syllabus. When you create a new course, you select the prebuilt course that you want, and its materials are copied into the new course. Once you are in the new course, you customize the prebuilt materials and you can create your own course materials. If you decide not to use the prebuilt course, you can delete it as you would any other course.

When creating a prebuilt course based on an eText, make sure to select one based on the same eText that your students are purchasing. If you do not, they cannot enter the course.

To use a prebuilt course:

  1. Log in to the MyLab.
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. Select the second option, Use either the MyLab generic course OR a book-specific (eText) version with prebuilt assignments.
  4. Click the Continue button.

The Course Builder now displays the Step 1: Choose a Course page.

  5. Proceed through the Course Builder, completing the entries for each step and then clicking the Continue button.

Click the following links for details on each step's entries:

    Step 1: Choose a course

    Step 2: Name your course

Step 3: Set student access properties

Step 4: Set course copy properties

    Step 5: Copy assignments

After you complete the last step, the Course Builder displays a verification page that shows all the course settings.

  6. Review the settings.

If you need to change any settings, click the applicable Edit button. (You can also edit these settings after the course is created.)

  7. Click the Continue button.

The Course Builder creates the course and displays the course settings, including the course ID at the top of the page. You can click the Print button to print this page.

A course ID starts with the instructor's name followed by a series of numbers ending with a letter; for example, Smith0418509C or Hackley657088S.

Important: Each course has a unique ID. Students must have the course ID in order to join your course; make sure to distribute the ID to your students.

  8. Review the course's prebuilt materials.
