Add or edit readiness checks and practice tests with study plans

Updated 19 Feb 2024

In MyLab Languages, you build readiness checks and practice tests with study plans using the study plan activity type.

A readiness check typically consists of three components: a pre-test, study materials, and a post-test. Pearson creates one or more readiness checks for each chapter of your course. When possible, use the Pearson-created readiness checks.

  • If you create your own readiness checks, they are called "study plans." Other than their name, study plans are in all respects the same as the Pearson-created readiness checks already available in your course.
  • To facilitate the process of creating a readiness check, organize your study materials and questions in the same folder.
  • Although you can add readiness checks to the Course Materials Library or My Course list, it is strongly recommended that you create all activities in the Course Materials Library and then move them to the My Course list where you can set appropriate scheduling.
  • If you do add a readiness check directly to the My Course list, you will be prompted to save it to the Course Materials Library. In this case, navigate to and select the Course Materials Library folder where you want to save the readiness check and then click Add and Close.

Create readiness checks

To create readiness checks:

  1. Go to the Course Materials > Add from Library or Course Materials > Manage Course Materials page.
  2. Click Add Course Materials.
  3. Select Add Study Plan.
  4. Enter a name and optional description for the readiness check.
  5. Click Edit in the Instructions to student section and modify the text if you want. Instructions can include up to 4000 characters.
  6. Create readiness check components in the following order:
  7. Click Save and Return.

Edit readiness checks

To edit readiness checks:

  1. Select Edit from the readiness check options menu.

If you want to edit only the readiness check description, select Edit Description, make your changes, and click Save. The Edit Description option is available only if you edit the readiness check in the Course Materials Library on the left side of the Course Materials > Add from Library page.

  2. Make the appropriate changes to the general information.
  3. When you finish making changes, click Save and Return.

Editing a Pearson-provided readiness check is strongly discouraged. The three components of a Pearson-provided readiness check are intricately tied together so editing any of them may disrupt these connections.
