Create or select pre-tests

Updated 19 Feb 2024

In MyLanguageLabs, you build readiness checks and practice tests with study plans using the study plan activity type.

A readiness check pre-test lets you determine a student's mastery of a set of course materials prior to attending class.

  1. Add a readiness check.
  2. In the PreTest section of the readiness check, click Create Test.
  3. If prompted, locate and open the folder in the Course Materials Library where you want to save the pre-test and click Add and Close.
  4. Enter pre-test details on the Activity Details page and click Save and Continue. Note that the basic/random behavioral mode is the default behavioral mode for readiness check.
  5. On the Questions page, add pre-test questions. You can add only auto-graded question types to the pre-test; you cannot add essay or file upload question types to a pre-test. Select Include only Testing to make the question appear in the MyTest folder in the Course Materials Library.
  6. On the Help Links page, include any course materials, web sites, or eText links you want to include to help students complete the pre-test. For details, see Add activity HelpLinks.
  7. On the Messages page, include any beginning or ending messages or directions you want to display to students before, during and after the pre-test. For details, see Add activity messages.
  8. On the Grades page, select the pre-test grade schema. For details, see Define a readiness check pre- or post-test grade schema.
  9. On the Teaching Support page, add additional information or links to assist instructors or teaching assistants who will teach the course.
  10. On the Preferences page, define pre-test settings. For details, see Set preferences for readiness check pre- and post-tests. If you do not specify any settings, the pre-test uses default settings.
  11. To save the pre-test, click Save and Return.
