Manage incomplete tests
Updated 23 Sep 2022
A test is incomplete if a student has not taken it or if the test was interrupted before the student completed it.
You can submit zeros or apply current scores for tests that students have not completed. You also can enable access to incomplete tests that were interrupted.
- From the main page of the Gradebook, select Manage Incompletes.
- Choose whether to assign zeros or current scores for interrupted tests.
If you are applying current scores, optionally apply a late penalty to tests, as defined in the test settings.
- Choose whether to submit zeros for any test that a student has not started.
- Optionally use the All Chapters list to filter the list of tests or choose Select All Past Due to select all students who have missed the deadline for any test.
Tests with past-due results are shown in red. Omitted tests are shown in gray.
Students with extensions that are not past the due date are not selected.
- Select the plus sign + beside a test name to see the students with past due results.
- Check any student you want to submit a score for.
In course groups, coordinating instructors can submit zeros for tests in all member courses.
Students need your permission to re-enter an interrupted test if you selected the Instructor must enable access option in the test settings.
To enable access for one student:
- Go to the student's Results page.
- Select Actions > Enable Access for the interrupted test
To enable access for multiple students:
- From the main page of the Gradebook, select More Tools > Enable Access.
- Select the + (plus sign) beside the test name.
- Check the box beside the name of each student to allow back into the test.
If students made multiple attempts, you can allow them to resume a specific attempt or all attempts.
When students resume an incomplete test:
- All of their answers so far are restored.
- Students can change answers that were already entered.
- The number of attempts is not incremented until the student submits the test. A single attempt can be resumed multiple times.
- If the test has a time limit, the time spent so far on the attempt is subtracted from the total time.
- The count does not increment when the test is set to allow multiple attempts.
For example, if a student was interrupted doing the second of three possible attempts, their resumption counts as the second attempt.
