Incomplete Attempt determines how students can resume an interrupted test. An attempt is incomplete when a student works on a test but does not submit it. Students' answers are saved but not their score.
You can choose either:
- Students have the Save for Later option — students don't need permission to save the test and return to it later or to resume an interrupted test.
When students save a test for later, they cannot access questions that they answered in earlier sessions. If they resume an incomplete test, all their answers are reloaded and students can change their answers.
- Students are expected to complete test in one session. If you choose this option, you can choose what happens if the session is interrupted:
- If attempt is interrupted, students may re-access and complete on their own — all of a student's answers to date are reloaded into the player when the student re-accesses an incomplete attempt.
- If attempt is interrupted, instructors must enable access — select either:
Restricted Access — students can work on other assignments before returning to the test.
Blocked Access — students cannot do any other assignments until after they have completed the test.
When a student resumes an incomplete attempt:
- The number of attempts is not incremented until the student explicitly selects Submit. A single attempt can be interrupted or saved for later multiple times.
- If the attempt has a time limit, the amount of time remaining is set to the total time limit minus the time spent to date on this attempt.
- If a test can be taken multiple times, the count does not increment. For example, if the test allows three attempts and a student is interrupted on the second attempt, their resumption counts as the second attempt.
