Take locked-down tests
Updated 08 May 2024
When your instructor locks down a test, you cannot open other browser windows or use any other application while you are taking the test. For example, you cannot use the online calculator or open a different browser. Learning aids are not available when you are taking a locked-down test.
Install the Pearson LockDown Browser to take a locked-down test or quiz on your PC, Mac, or Chromebook. The LockDown Browser cannot be used with mobile devices.
If you ran the Browser Check, you already installed the Pearson LockDown Browser, if it's needed in your program.
When you are taking a locked-down test, you might see a warning () on the "Are you ready to start?" page. If so, you need to check whether LockDown Browser is installed.
- When you take a locked-down test, select Check Your Browser on the "Are you ready to start?" page.
- On the Check Your Browser page, select View a test page.
If you get a "success" message, you already have LockDown Browser installed. If the page is blank or you see an error message, you need to install LockDown Browser.
- If you didn't see the success message, select install the Pearson LockDown Browser to open the Browser Check.
- Select Install the Pearson LockDown Browser now.
Note: For ChromeOS, you'll see the Google Chrome extensions page. Install the Pearson LockDown Browser extension. Close all browser tabs before you start your test or quiz. - When LockDown Browser is installed, dismiss the Browser Check and select I am ready to start on the Check Your Browser page to begin taking the test.
The next time you take a locked-down test, you do not need to install LockDown Browser.
- Select the test in the Announcements page or on the Tests page.
- Install LockDown Browser, if necessary.
- Take the test, as usual.
If your instructor allows it, you can select the calculator icon in the top left side of the tool bar to use LockDown Browser's built-in calculator.
- After you submit your test, select Continue on LockDown Browser page to return to your program and keep working.
