Edit assignments
Updated 10 Oct 2023
You can edit assignments in various ways depending on the assignment's status:
- Published or unpublished
- Upcoming, due, or past due
- Student work not started, started, or submitted
For example, after students start work on an assessment, you can extend its due date and time, but can't edit assessment questions. More details

- Open an assignment you want to edit.
- Select the options menu for an assessment, then select Edit scoring.
- Change the points.
- Publish or Save your changes.
You can move an assignment due date to a future date and time, even after students start work or the initial due date passes. After students start work, you can't move it to a date or time in the past.
Your new or updated assignment appears on the Dashboard.
Tip: You can also select an assignment's calendar icon from the Dashboard, and change the due date there.
You can change the due date for individual items in an assignment, even if students have submitted work, as long as the new due date is after the current due date and not a date in the past.
Your new or updated assignment appears on the Dashboard. Students see a flag and message about the changes as well.
The assessment's point total adjusts based on your changes.
Tip If you expect to change points for all similar assessments, consider changing scoring settings for that assessment type.
