Gradebook tips and tricks

It can be quicker to access Gradebook data for one student by either searching on a student name from the Course Home (Mastering Performance area) or by selecting the student's name in the Roster. For more information, see the following topics:

Your computer, the Internet browser you use, and your Internet connection speed all have an impact on the amount of time it takes to display student scores. If your course is large, you may experience shorter display times by setting Students Per Page to 25.

Because the Gradebook is a dynamic Flash-based application, you can't print it directly. Instead, follow these steps to print the Gradebook:

1. Export the Gradebook to a .csv file.
2. Open the .csv file in Microsoft Excel (or another program that supports .csv files), and then print.

Check whether the student has joined the correct Mastering course. To do this, ask the student for the course ID that appears in their course.

The names of suspended students don't appear in your Gradebook.

• Note that inactive/suspended students can't submit work.

If a student appears in the Gradebook, is submitting work, and isn't disenrolled or suspended, but the Gradebook doesn't show any submitted work, the problem may be a security issue on the student's computer or network.

Advise the student to search AskPearson or to contact Pearson Support.

You can import scores to the Gradebook to compare your physical students with your Mastering student enrollment. Create a fake offline activity and import "scores" to it. The report generated by this process alerts you to any discrepancies between your external gradebook and the enrollment in your Mastering course.

The report includes lists of:

• All sign-ins (plus student name and ID, if available) in the course for which there is no corresponding student
• All sign-ins (plus student name and ID, if available) that are duplicates (whether or not they exist in the course)

You can also check for duplicate student sign-ins or IDs by exporting grades to a .csv file and sorting on the Name or Student ID column.
