Change a student's enrollment status
Updated 19 Feb 2024
The course Roster lists the names of all students who have joined your class, along with their Student ID, Login Name (username), Email, Groups to which you have assigned them, and current enrollment Status.
Initially, all students who join the course are Enrolled, but you can change that status to Suspended or Disenrolled. Select Yes * or No * in the right column for more info.
Status/Description | Course Access | Name/Scores Included |

- Select Roster from the course menu and locate the student account to change.
- In the Status column, select Enrolled, Disenrolled, or Suspended.
You can change the status for multiple student accounts before Step 3.
- Choose Save at the bottom of the page.
If you suspect that a Student account is being used by other students as a cheating mechanism (one clue can be a row of consistently low scores in the Gradebook), you should block access by either suspending or disenrolling the "student."
Students who are suspended or disenrolled see a status notification when they try to sign in to the course. The message advises them to contact the instructor if the status is incorrect.
Suspended accounts cannot access any eTextbook or Study Area materials that might accompany the course. Disenrolled students can access these materials.
At the end of the term, or any time you want to see an accurate picture of your students' performance in the course , you should exclude scores for non-participating students by disenrolling them.
Student access ends on the Course End Date (established in course settings), but that does not block your access to the course and does not remove scores for students who dropped your course.
If a student has already joined the maximum number of Mastering courses allowed with a single purchase or access code (four courses that use the same textbook), he or she is not allowed to join a different course until one of the enrollments is disenrolled. This situation can happen if a student needs to switch to a different discussion section or lab.
If the student has scores for completed assignments that will be entered into the Gradebook in the new course after the student enrolls, be sure to export the student's scores from this course to serve as a record.
You can change a student's status back to Enrolled at any time if you discover that the change to suspended or disenrolled was an error. Regardless of the current or previous status, all student work and scores are preserved. Once students can access the course again, they can see their prior work and scores, as allowed by your assignment settings.
If reinstated students have missed assignment deadlines because of suspension or disenrollment, you might need to grant them exemptions, extensions, or score adjustments.
