eTextbook and other resources for your course

When your course has an eTextbook associated with it, you'll see this option in the course menu. (The option may say Pearson eText or eTextbook.) Most eTextbooks provide an audiobook feature so students can also listen to their textbook.

• eTextbook study features can include highlights, notes, flashcards, and Channels videos.

How the eTextbook can support student learning

• Scheduled Reading assignments — Students can use the eTextbook (or their print book) for Scheduled Reading assignments.
• Wrong answer feedback and hints may point students to specific book content, which they can review using the eTextbook.
• Access to study resources — The eTextbook provides students with study tools like the ability to add highlights and notes, create flashcards, post questions about book content, and to possibly access Channels study resources.
• Review links that direct students to eTextbook content can be found in some Mastering assignment items.
• The eText Analytics Dashboard lets you easily email students who may not be spending enough time in the eTextbook.

Students receive access to Learning Catalytics with the Pearson eTextbook

If you use Learning Catalytics with your Mastering course, each student's Pearson eTextbook access also provides access to Learning Catalytics sessions and question review, without an additional purchase.

Select Instructor Resources from the course menu to open teaching resources appropriate for your course textbook.

• What's in Instructor Resources?
  Powerpoint presentations, media assets, editable/printable quiz or test bank questions, instructor guides, case studies, and more.
• Only instructors and section instructors with educator accounts can open Instructor Resources.
  These resources are NOT viewable by students or students who registered with a student code and were promoted as section instructors.

Instructor Resource Center (IRC)

If you don't see the Instructor Resources option, or if you'd like to check for more resources, you might want to visit the Instructor Resource Center (IRC), which is outside of Mastering. For authorized users, the IRC provides access to resources for all disciplines, and is not limited to the textbook for your course.

Section instructors without a Pearson Educator account don't receive automatic access to the IRC, but can request IRC access. Your institution is contacted to approve this request. IRC access might be appropriate for an adjunct for whom your institution prefers not to grant a full Pearson Educator account.

When available for a course, the Study Area offers students self-paced learning through different activities. Students can repeat these activities as often as they like.

• Select Study Area from the course menu.
  If you don't see this option in the course menu, this feature isn't available for your course.
• Work that students do in the Study Area is not reported to the Mastering Gradebook, but some Study Area activities can also be assigned for credit. To assign these activities so grades get posted to the Mastering Gradebook, filter by selecting the Activity check box when you add items to an assignment.
• For some Mastering Astronomy textbooks, self-guided tutorials are available for independent study. You can also assign these tutorials so that grades get posted to the Gradebook.
