Quick start: eTextbook instructor
Get started with Pearson eTextbook. When your course includes the eTextbook, students can listen to the audiobook, access AI study tools, do assignments, and use other features to help them learn.
New feature: Instructor-led assign and guide tools — In some courses, an eTextbook comes with instructor-assigned gradable reading assignments, AI-generated questions, and student performance insights.

First steps
Open your eTextbook
Depending on your course, you can open your eTextbook:
- From your Learning Management System (LMS)
- From your course
- From Pearson+
- From a QR code
Prepare assignments
New feature: If your eTextbook has instructor-led assign and guide tools, you can create and edit gradable reading assignments.
Create assignments
You can create assignments by uploading your syllabus. Pearson+ extracts data and generates questions for your gradable reading assignments.
Edit assignments
You can edit a single assignment or groups of assignments as long as no student has worked on them.
Navigate your eTextbook
You can edit settings and use tools to navigate your eTextbook.
Change display settings — After you open your eTextbook, you can change settings such as text style, highlights, and more.
Use accessibility settings — Most eTextbooks are screen reader accessible and provide audiobooks and display settings.
Renew eTextbook access — When an eTextbook is available from a course, you can renew access when the course has expired.
Use the menu — When you open an eTextbook, it usually shows your last page view. Use the menu to navigate to eTextbook features.
Listen to the audiobook — Most eTextbooks provide an audiobook, except for PDF eTextbooks.
Search for content — Quickly search book content by searching for terms or phrases.

AI-Powered Study Tool — Available in select titles as a beta release, the AI-Powered Study Tool is a generative artificial intelligence (AI) chat tool that provides individualized support, practice, and feedback to learners.
Highlights, notes, and the notebook — Add highlights in the eTextbook or add a note for a highlight. Use the notebook to add notes independent of a highlight and to filter or export your notes. Instructors can share their highlights and notes with the course participants.
Practice with Flashcards — Students can create flashcards or use provided flashcards to quiz themselves.
Study Prep videos — For study help, many eTextbooks include access to Study Prep videos and practice questions/problems in a field of study.
