Set preferences for an activity

Updated 19 Feb 2024

Activity preferences define an activity's behavior. For example, you can specify an activity's function, features, presentation style, and available feedback options.

You can define activity preferences in two ways:

  • Activity level: You can access and change preferences for an individual activity from the Preferences page when you create or edit an individual activity. Use this method to change preferences for an individual activity or readiness check or study plan pre-test or post-test in your course. If you make no changes, the default course-level preferences apply to the activity.
  • Course level: You can access and change default preferences for all activities of a given type by changing course-level preferences on the Preferences > Activities page. You can also access and change default preferences for all readiness check or study plan pre-tests and post-tests from the Preferences > Study Plan page. Use this method to define default options for existing and new activities of that activity type, or existing and new readiness check or study plan pre-tests and post-tests.

Teaching assistants never have access to Preferences pages. (MyLab Languages only)

This topic explains all available the possible preferences you can set for activities. The options that are available to you depend on the type and behavioral mode of the activity you are creating. (MyLab Languages only)

Setting preferences at the course level when possible is more efficient that setting them at the individual activity level.
