Create tables

Updated 16 Jun 2023

You can use tables in questions for both formatting and for tabular data.

For example, to create a question with text on the left and a figure on the right, you can create a two-column table. See Use a pie chart in a math question for an example of a question that uses a table for formatting.

To create a table:

  1. Click the table icon () to open the Insert Table window.
  2. In the Number of columns box, enter the number of columns or choose the number from the list.
  3. In the Number of rows box, enter the number of rows or choose the number from the list.
  4. Under Table layout, choose how to size your table:
    • Autosize - The table cells stretch to fit your content.
    • Size table to fit window - The table extends the entire width of the window.
    • Size table manually - The table appears in the size you specify. Enter either the percentage of the window to use for the table or a width in pixels.
  5. Optionally select Remember dimensions for new tables if you want to create additional tables with these specifications
  6. Click OK to enter the table into the question.

After the table displays in the Custom Question Builder, you can select the divider between cells and drag to manually resize the width of rows or the depth of columns.

To remove a table, position your cursor to the right of the table and then press backspace.
