Menus

The menus in the Custom Question Builder window include both the standard options found in most applications and options specific to the Custom Question Builder. This topic describes only the specific Custom Question Builder options.
The Custom Question Builder includes the following menu items:
Many of the options available in these menus are also accessible by clicking the icons in the toolbars beneath the menus.
- New - creates
a new custom question. This option opens the Create Custom Question wizard,
where you can choose how to create your question.
If you choose this option when you have a question open in the Custom Question Builder, the new question replaces the existing question.
- Preview Exercise - opens the Preview window where you can view the question as your student sees it.
This menu contains the standard options Undo and Redo.
- Horizontal Line - inserts a horizontal line in either the question area or the answer area.
- Picture - opens a file browser where you can navigate to an image and add it to either the question area or the answer area.
- Symbol - opens the Symbols window, where you can choose Greek letters, operators, and other symbols to insert in your question.
- Weblink – opens the Insert a Weblink window, where you enter a URL and link description to insert in your question. The link description displays, hyperlinked, in your question. When your students click this link, the URL opens in a new browser window.
This menu contains standard options for formatting characters and paragraphs.
- Regenerate Algorithmic Values - generates new values for algorithmic variables in your questions. The regenerated values display with a lavender background in the question-and-answer area. (You also can generate new values using the Regenerate Algorithmic Values button.)
- Preview Exercise - opens the Preview Question window where you can view the question as your students see it and print the question. If your textbook uses SI notation, you can choose a format for the thousands separator: space, comma, or decimal.
- Show Algorithmic Value Names - displays the variable name for algorithmic values in the question-and-answer area. (You also can display value names from the Show Algorithmic Value Names button.)
- Customize Palette - opens the Edit Tool Palette window, where you can choose what buttons to display to students on questions that display the math palette. (You also can open this editor from the Customize button beneath the math palette.)
This menu contains standard options for creating and formatting tables.

- Tutorials - opens the Custom Question Builder Tutorial to help you get started with creating your custom questions.
