Create or copy a course in MathXL or MathXL for School

Updated 29 Jan 2024

MathXL and MathXL for School are designed to work outside a learning management system (LMS), so they incorporate capabilities like creating a course that are otherwise handled by an LMS.

To create or copy a course:

  1. From the menu, select Course Manager.

You also can select your name in the course banner and select My Courses.

  2. On the Course Manager page, select Create or copy a course.
  3. Choose the type of course to create:
    • Standard - A single course with no relation to other courses.
    • Coordinator - A template course that you copy to create course sections (members). Changes to a coordinator course propagate to all the member sections. Students do not enroll in coordinator courses.
    • Member - A copy of a coordinator course that is linked to and managed by the coordinator. Students enroll in member sections.

See Manage course groups for more information.

  4. Name your course.
  5. Choose how to create your course:
    • Create a new course - A course where you create your own assignments.
    • Create a new preloaded course - A course with already created assignments. See Use preloaded courses for details.
    • Copy one of my existing courses - Your own course from your current school.
    • Copy a course from another instructor at my school - A course owned by another instructor. The course owner must make the course available for copying in the course settings.
    • Copy a course by specifying its Course ID - A course from a different school. Enter the course ID.
  6. Choose the textbook from the list. When you create a member course, choose the coordinator course to copy.
  7. Select Next to make course settings.
