Set up course groups in MathXL and MathXL for School

As the coordinating instructor:

1. On your welcome page or in the Course Manager, select Create or copy a course.
2. In the Create Course wizard:
   • On step 1, select Coordinator from the "Type of course to create" list.
   • On step 2, choose the time zone and optionally apply it to all member sections.
   • On step 3 optionally allow member courses to remove themselves from the group.
   • On step 4, choose the default level of access granted to section instructors in the member sections. You can edit these settings for individual instructors in each section.
3. Finish setting up the coordinator course.
4. Add assignments and any other features to be inherited by the member sections.
5. Open the Course Manager.
6. Locate your coordinator course and select Actions >Copy. Member is already selected as the type of course to create.
7. Create a new copy for each member section in your course group.
8. Optionally edit the access levels for individual section instructors. In the member section's Gradebook, select More Tools > Manage Instructor Access > View / Edit Custom Access Settings.
9. In the Course Manager, select the course ID for each section to open printable instructions for student enrollment.

As the coordinating instructor:

1. Provide the section instructor with the course ID.
2. Ask the section instructor to sign into MathXL or MathXL for School and enroll in the course.

   If they need an account, section instructors should register using the access type appropriate to their role (student or educator).

   They either:

   • Choose Enroll in Another Instructor's Course from the welcome page.
   • Select their user name in the upper right and select Enroll in course.

     Section instructors with an educator account do not need an access code to enroll. Section instructors or TAs with a student account need to pay for the course or provide the access code that comes with their textbook.

3. As coordinator, open the member section's Gradebook and select More Tools > Edit Roster.
4. Check Section instructor to promote the instructor or student.
5. From the Access list for the section instructor, select:
   • Full instructor - has complete access to course functionality.
   • Section instructor - has access levels as assigned by the settings in the coordinator course.
   • Read only - has view-only access to the Gradebook, assignments, and student results. This setting is typically used for TAs.
   • Custom - Opens the Define Custom Access window where you can choose specific access levels for the section instructor.
