Personalized homework
You can assign homework personalized for each student based on their performance on tests or quizzes. Personalized homework excludes material they have already mastered:
- Only questions from objectives that the student did not master display in the homework.
- Students earn automatic credit for questions from objectives they mastered on the test or quiz.
An assignment cannot be personalized after a student has worked on it.
Watch: Using Personalized Homework in MyLab (5:32)
- On step 1, the Start tab, of the assignment creation wizard, select Options for Personalization.
- Enable Personalized Homework.
- Select the prerequisite test or quiz from the list.
Note: Do not select personalization options when you create a homework that includes media. Instead, create the assignment with the media questions and then edit the assignment to personalize it.
When students take the prerequisite test or quiz, they automatically receive credit for the questions from objectives they mastered. In their Homework overview:
- Questions from the objectives they mastered are shown as completed and the homework has an initial grade.
- They can work only on the objectives they didn't master by choosing Show what I need to do.
Personalized homework assignments are not updated when a student makes additional attempts at the prerequisite test or quiz. To regenerate homework based on subsequent attempts at the prerequisite test or quiz, delete the results of the homework.
When you create a personalized homework, questions from the test and quiz are automatically included, including those already mastered. To edit the available questions:
- Go to step 2 of the assignment wizard.
- Remove any questions you want to exclude from the homework.
Questions copied from other textbooks aren't marked as mastered in the personalized homework regardless of whether the student mastered them on the pretest.
Personalized homework works with Skill Builder, if selected.
To master an objective, a student must meet the course's mastery threshold on tests or quizzes. By default, mastery is set at 100%. To avoid too many questions on personalized homework assignments, change the Score required for mastery in the Study Plan Manager.
