Freehand Grader assignments
If available in your course, create a Freehand Grader assignment—an assignment students download and complete digitally or on paper. Students create a PDF of their work and upload it for you to grade online. Freehand Grader assignments are useful when you want students to show their work for you to grade.
Overview
- Instructors upload a PDF of their assignment.
You then mark the location of each question by “dropping a pin” on it. You label each question and set its point value before specifying the assignment due date. - Students complete the assignment.
To answer on paper — Students can download and print the PDF to complete it. Students can also answer on blank paper as they view the assignment. You can email students the PDF or give them a printed version of the assignment.
To answer on a tablet or laptop — Students download the PDF and enter their answers in it. To enter equations or freehand answers students can use a stylus. They save their work to PDF.
- Students who worked on paper scan their work to create a PDF.
They can scan multiple pages and save them to a single PDF on their phone or tablet. Student instructions: Create a PDF from scanned pages - Students upload their completed assignment PDF.
They mark the locations of their answers by pinning. They must submit the assignment by its due date, even if it's only partially completed. They can submit the assignment one time only.
OR
Instructors bulk upload students' completed assignment PDFs.
Students submit their assignment PDFs to the instructor. Instructors use the Bulk Upload (Beta) feature to upload to upload multiple student assignments as a single PDF. - Instructors grade the assignment and release the scores.
As you grade, you create reusable grading criteria with applicable point losses. You then apply these criteria and any optional notes to the answers of different students for the same question. You can optionally upload a solution set PDF for students to review. - Students can see their score and review the assignment.
If you include a solution set PDF, students can review the correct answers after the due date.
Freehand Grader assignments are different than other assignments.
