Transition copied courses to Access Pearson

You can transition a copy of a paired Blackboard, Canvas, or D2L Brightspace course integrated with MyLab and Mastering (LTI 1.1) to Access Pearson (LTI 1.3). This doesn't apply to Moodle, Sakai, and Schoology.

New or active courses: Pair a new LMS course using Access Pearson (LTI 1.3) or transition an active course.

Step 1: Prepare your copied LMS course for Access Pearson

If your LMS administrator upgraded to the Access Pearson (LTI 1.3) integration, you need to pair a copied MyLab or Mastering course to your copied LMS course using the new Access Pearson tool instead of the prior MyLab and Mastering tool. To use a copy of a previous LMS course paired with a MyLab or Mastering course for the upcoming term, follow the instructions below. You'll need to prepare your copied LMS course for the new Access Pearson integration. After you pair a MyLab or Mastering course with your LMS course using the new Access Pearson tool, you won't need to prepare your LMS course each term moving forward.

With Access Pearson, you can still sync grades and create assignment or course tool links in your LMS course. You can also copy a previous MyLab or Mastering course when setting up with the new Access Pearson tool, so you’ll retain any MyLab or Mastering assignments you typically copy from term to term.

From your copied LMS course, do the following. You don’t need to make any changes to your MyLab and Mastering course.

  1. Assignment links: Depending on your LMS and course setup, assignment links might be automatically migrated when transitioning to Access Pearson. Otherwise, you need to manually remove assignment links from your LMS course and add them back when pairing.

  2. Course tool links for all LMSs: Delete any course tool links, including MyLab and Mastering Course Home, MyLab Skills, and Study Area, before you add the Access Pearson integration to your course.
  3. Grade columns: Depending on your LMS and course setup, you might need to delete grade columns from your copied course to avoid duplicate grades.
  4. Hide or remove the old MyLab and Mastering link for all LMSs: Hide or delete the old link to open MyLab and Mastering from the LMS course. This prevents students from accidentally using it. The old link is likely called MyLab and Mastering. Students will use a new link called Access Pearson.

D2L Brightspace: If applicable, edit your course home page and remove the MyLab and Mastering widget.

Step 2: Pair your copied course using Access Pearson

Select your LMS below for instructions on how to link accounts, pair your MyLab or Mastering and LMS courses, add assignment or course tool links, and set up grade sync.

Important notes

Access Pearson link: You must use the new Access Pearson link to open and pair your courses. Don't select the old MyLab and Mastering link or a prior assignment, course tool, or eText link. If you do, the course will be integrated with the MyLab and Mastering integration (LTI 1.1) instead of the new Access Pearson integration (LTI 1.3). Students also need to use the new Access Pearson link to open your MyLab or Mastering course from the LMS course. Links to prior MyLab or Mastering assignments within your LMS no longer work for students and may produce error messages.

  • Authorization message: When you select the Access Pearson link, you may see an authorization prompt. For the transition to Access Pearson to succeed and to automatically migrate your assignment links from LTI 1.1 to 1.3, you must select Authorize.
  • Getting started: From your LMS course, select Access Pearson. You'll be prompted to Open Pearson and select MyLab and Mastering.
  • Multi-semester or sequential courses: If the second half of a multi-semester course must be completed using the Access Pearson integration, students are prompted to link accounts using their Pearson account the first time they open the content using Access Pearson. It's critical that students link accounts using the same Pearson username and password as the first part of the course. This ensures their access to MyLab and Mastering without being prompted for payment.
