Update files
You can update audio/video/assets using one of the following methods:
- Update a single audio or video file by editing its Media Object Info.
- Update multiple files using the Ingestion Spreadsheet to replace and add assets.
Use the Ingestion Spreadsheet for an update
When you're updating multiple files using the Ingestion Spreadsheet, at least one of the following must be in the update:
- New metadata
- New audio or video file
- New thumbnail
- New caption file
- New chaptering XML file (for video files only)
The Ingestion Spreadsheet must also have a Reference ID (guid). A new asset is created if the Reference ID does not already exist.
GCS does not have a way to check for uniqueness of a Reference ID; the Business Units have to ensure uniqueness.
Use either single file or Ingestion Spreadsheet for an update
You can update the following content using either single-file upload or ZIP file and spreadsheet upload:
Metadata
- Single file: Edit the metadata in the file's Media Object Info.
- Spreadsheet: Only the fields you enter will be changed, all other fields will be unaffected.
Video
- Video: The new video will take the place of the existing video.
- Audio: The new audio will replace the existing audio.
Captions
- Spreadsheet:
- If the new caption file has the same language as an existing one, it replaces the original file.
- If the new caption file has a different language then the existing ones, it is added to the asset.
- Single File: You cannot update an existing caption file; you must delete the old caption then add the new one. You can add up to 7 caption files.
Thumbnail
- If you do not specify a thumbnail, one is generated for you.
- Single File:You must use the Replace button to update your thumbnail; do not use Delete
- Spreadsheet: Enter the full path of the replacement image.
Chaptering XML
- The new Chaptering XML replaces the existing Chaptering XML. (Chaptering XML is for video only.)
Allow the current upload/update to be completed before updating the same asset again. Updating the same asset before the previous one completes will result in a failure.
