At the end of the course

Copying a Mastering course removes any former student data in the new course. How to work with a copied course

To maintain your course assignments for 5 years, create an instructor-use course. Student-use courses usually end in 2 years or less.

This data includes student names, grades, and any learning outcomes. The assignments and other course content remain.

Student data is also removed when you copy a course.

• Export a copy of student scores from your Gradebook for your records.
• Print or export learning outcomes, if you used Learning Outcomes in your course.

If your course is continuing from one term to the next with no change in the course ID, and few students are dropping or adding the course, you only need to do the following.

1. Export a copy of the grades from your Gradebook for your records.
2. Change the enrollment status to Inactive for any students who are no longer participating in the course (Manage Course then Roles and Enrollment Status).
3. Remove any section instructors who are not continuing. For any new section instructors, you may want to edit some course privileges, like to restrict viewing of all student grades or correct answers in the Item Library.

You’ll want to copy the course. During the copy process, you'll specify the dates for the course.

• To base the new course on the same edition textbook content:

In both processes, you're asked if you want copy assignment dates. If you copy dates, you can adjust the dates as needed. If you don't copy dates, you can supply new dates for all assignments.
