Use the latest published version of an item

Unless you also include supported items, the assignment will:

• Not be suitable as a Parent assignment. That is, effective Adaptive Follow-Up recommendations cannot be generated for the assignment. (You always have the option of not adding a Follow-Up for an assignment.)
• Not contribute to continuously adaptive learning.

Your course may provide a list of content changes in the new edition compared to the previous edition, also known as the correlation chart. This information can be a good resource for selecting specific items to add or remove from copied assignments.

1. From the Course Home, select either Learn more about Mastering (Getting Started area) or Learn More (“Enrich your course” area).
2. From the Learn More about Mastering page, open the correlation chart by selecting one of the following options.
   • In the What’s New area: Select list of content changes.
   • In the Help for Instructors area: Select Master Content Correlation: <older no.> edition to <newer no.> edition.
3. Sort or filter the chart to locate revised items.

   You might see a Correlation Information column with a drop-down arrow that you can by click, and then select Problem was copied and changed, as shown.
   

   

If no correlation chart is available for the latest edition, consider rebuilding your assignments with new items to ensure that the adaptive learning engine can gather enough information to provide valuable Follow-Up recommendations.

1. Open the assignment for editing.
2. On the  Items page, filter the list of items to display.

   Every publisher item listed is current in the Item Library and provides information for continuously adaptive learning, except items in the Introduction to Mastering assignment or in sources separate from the main textbook. For details, see qualified publisher items.

3. Note the information that may apply to each item.

    Already included in this assignment.

   Included in another assignment in this course.

   New to this textbook within the past 12 months. Take a look! You might want to include it.

   Linked Item Title Select to examine the item content.

   For more details, see information in other columns for each item.

4. Select an empty check box to add a current item to the assignment.

When you have finished adding items, open and scroll to the bottom of the Organization page to examine the number of Items/Points, Estimated Difficulty, and Estimated Time for the assignment.

This page lists all items in the assignment, including both:

• The current items selected on the previous page.
• Other items that were copied with the assignment. These items might include My Items and items from a previous edition of the book.

Each linked item title lets you examine both kinds of items.

If you are satisfied with the assignment, you can keep all the items, and even return to the previous page to select more items.

If you want to remove items, select their corresponding check boxes, and then select . For more details, see  Organization (order, pool, randomize, & more).

You do one of the following.

• Create a new course based on the current edition of the textbook, and create or copy assignments with items only from that edition. These assignments include pre-built assignments you copy from the publisher.
• Copy a course that was created as described above. These courses include courses you or another instructor have created with items from the current edition.
