Sort and preview assignable items

 A check mark in the box means the item or items in the filtered list results are assigned.

How to know when and where an item is in any other assignments

Indicates that the item is already assigned in another assignment in this course. Click to view details about where the item is assigned.

Tip: It’s often a good idea to assign an item more than once, particularly the items in the Introduction to Mastering assignment, which introduce students to how to answer different kinds of questions.

• Sort by assigned/unassigned items — If your filtered item list contains items added to the assignment, select the arrow next to the topmost check box. If your list contains item groupings, like sections, assigned/unassigned items are sorted within each grouping.
• Assign/unassign ALL items — Use the topmost assign/unassign check box to add or remove ALL items in the filtered items list for the assignment.
• Assign/unassign individual items — Use the check box for each item item row in the filtered items list to add or remove individual items for the assignment.
• Assign/unassign by item grouping — Use the check box next to the bold group name, such as for a section, concept, or learning outcome in the filtered items list. You can expand or collapse your view of the grouping’s member items.

Name of the item, which you can select to preview or work the item as a student. Next to the Title heading, you can click the link to Hide Description or Show Description of the items.

Tips

• The symbol shows items that provide math remediation. In these items, students see links to math practice items after they submit a wrong answer that shows a math weakness.

  If you sort the list by title, items with math remediation appear either at the start or end of the list.

• In an assignment, this title can be hidden from students. Use the Hide Item Titles security setting, either with a category or by customizing settings for the assignment.

Possible Item Types — Types listed here can include Activities, Coaching Activities, End-of-Chapter, End-of-Section, Lab, Misconception Questions, Reading Questions, Test Bank, and Tutorial. Point to an item type name for its description.

Item attributes — One or more item attribute icons may appear to the left of an item title, like for mobile items. Point to an attribute icon for its meaning.

New item. Added to the Item Library by the publisher within the past 12 months. You might want to examine these items and consider using them in your course.

  Mobile-Ready item. Can be completed on a computer or a supported mobile device. More on mobile-ready items

 Randomizable variables. Can use fixed or randomized numbers. More on randomizing variables

 Symbols. Can use symbolic math answers as well as numbers.

  Essay. One or more parts (A, B, and so on) of the item are essays. More about essay answers

 Biological. End-of-Chapter item that contains one or more questions about a biological application of physics. Suitable for pre-med students. Available for select Mastering Physics course books.

 My Items. Content that you or another instructor created.

Median time, in minutes, that students used to complete the item.

Statistically derived level of difficulty from 1-5, with 5 being the hardest.

Statistical percent of all students who answered correctly and all students who answered incorrectly or requested the answer. Segments in the bar also show the average number of wrong answers submitted, how many students requested the answer, and the number of hints used per student.

Point to each colored segment to see its meaning.
