How to work on an assignment

There are different types of assignments available in your course, and how you work on them depends on the assignment type. (Not all assignment types are available in all courses).

  • You'll probably complete many activities and assessments in the MyLab player. These are typically activities with multiple-choice, reading, math, or short-essay questions. select the Help icon as you work to get information on using the player and particularly on entering mathematical answers and symbols. If you're working on a tablet, also see Use the on-screen keyboard.
  • Interactive Grammar Apply activities have instructions, hints, and a summary of your score. Make sure to read the Instructions because they explain how to do the activity along with information on how many points you lose for using hints. Use the player's Help icon for full information on these activities. Also see Work an interactive grammar activity.
  • If your instructor has assigned writing assignments, whether you're in Writing Space or another editor, select a help icon as you work on the assignment to get information on what you need to do and how to use the editor. Also see Work a Writing Space assignment and Work a Writing Skills or Writing Practice essay activity.
  • For a course that has Learning Catalytics, you "cross over" to Learning Catalytics from the MyLab course and work directly in Learning Catalytics. You can select a Help link in the Learning Catalytics page footer to get information on how to answer a question. Also see Learning Catalytics assignments.
