Create a New Course

The Course Builder takes you through the steps of creating a new course. Before you start, make sure to read Create, Copy, or Link to a Course.

When creating a course, you choose whether to create a generic course or a course for a specific text or eText. It is important to select the exact product (eText, text, or generic) that your students have access to. Students cannot join your course if you base it on a product that does not match the access code they enter when registering for the course. If you are using a Pearson (Longman or PH) handbook, the students' access code is specific to the title of the text or eText. Otherwise, you are probably using a generic course. If you are not sure, contact your Pearson Sales Representative.

  3. Select the first option and click the Continue button. (For more information on these options, see Step 1: Choose Your Course Type.)

The Step 1: Choose Your Master Course page is now displayed.

  4. Proceed through the Course Builder, completing the entries for each step and then clicking the Continue button.

Use the following links for details on the entries:

Step 1: Choose Your Master Course

    Step 2: Name Your Course

Step 3: Set Student Access Properties

Step 4: Set Course Copy Properties

Step 5: Set Study Plan Properties

After you complete the last step, the Course Builder displays all the course settings.

  5. Review the settings.

  6. Click the Continue button.

The Course Builder creates the course and displays the course settings, including the course ID at the top of the page.

A course ID starts with the instructor's name followed by a series of numbers ending with a letter; for example, Smith0418509C or Hackley657088S.

Important: Each course has a unique ID. Students must have the course ID in order to join your course; make sure to distribute the ID to your students.

You can also click the Print button to print the course settings.
