Characteristics of a copied course
Updated 19 Feb 2024
When you create a course by copying one of your existing courses or another instructor's course, the new course contains most, but not all, of the content or settings of the original course. For example, any course content not from the primary book source or a related supplemental book source, like a lab guide, is not copied into the new course. (Different edition content does copy.)
For details about what happens to Mastering content if you copy an LMS course, see copy an LMS course. Applies to Blackboard, D2L Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle, Sakai, or Schoology.
The textbook selected during course copy determines content and resources in the new course. This includes resources like the eTextbook, publisher-provided assignable items in the Item Library, and any Dynamic Study Modules.
- If you copy a course to the new edition textbook (one or two edition up) — Standard assignments from the original course are copied into the new course and any assigned publisher items reflect the new edition content.
- This doesn't apply to Scheduled Readings or assigned Dynamic Study Modules. You'll need to recreate these based on the different textbook content.
- All of your custom My Items become associated with No Chapter Specified, even if you associated the items with a chapter in the original course.
- If you need to change the book after creating a copied course — Please contact Pearson Support.
