The Homework and Tests page
The Homework and Tests page lists the homework, quizzes, and tests your instructor assigns for the course. You click an assignment name to do the assignment.
In some courses, you also see an orange pushpin icon with a link to the next section or objective that you are recommended to work on in your Study Plan.
The filter bar above the table of assignments lets you show only a particular type of assignment in the table. To change the contents of the table, click one of the following:
- Show All - Lists all assignments.
- Homework - Lists only homework assignments.
- Quizzes & Tests - Lists only
quizzes and tests.
When you select this view, the sample tests available in your course are listed separately at the bottom of the table. These tests are not assigned; you can do them for practice.
- Chapters - Displays a chapter dropdown
list where you can choose a chapter to show assignments only from that
chapter.
Depending on the type of assignments you choose, you will see all assignments, just homework, or just quizzes and tests from that chapter.
Click Chapters again to hide the chapter dropdown list and display the assignments from all chapters again.
The table of assignments shows:
- Due - The
date and time when the assignment is due. If no time is shown, the assignment
is due at 11:59 PM on the date shown. If there is no date or time shown,
the instructor has not set a due date for that assignment. If the date
appears crossed out, the assignment is past due.
If you see a flag icon in front of an assignment, you must complete a prerequisite assignment before entering this assignment. Position your mouse cursor on the flag to see information about the prerequisite.
- Assignment - The
name of the assignment. Click the name to do the assignment.
The H icon stands for homework; the T icon stands for tests; the Q icon stands for quizzes. A purple push-pin icon indicates Study Plan work that you must do as a prerequisite for a test or quiz.
If the due date has passed for a test or quiz, the link is disabled. If the due date has passed for a homework assignment but you are still allowed to work on it, you can click the linked name to review the assignment, but you can't work on it for a score.
- Time Limit - The amount of time allowed to take a test or quiz. The column is blank if there is no time limit.
- Attempts - The
number of times you have taken the test or quiz and the number of attempts
you are allowed - for example: 1 of 3. The infinity symbol () means that an unlimited number of attempts is allowed. This
column is blank for homework assignments.
The word "incomplete" appears if you began a test or quiz but did not submit it. Depending on how your instructor set up the test, you may be able to re-enter the incomplete test on your own and continue taking it. Or you may need to ask your instructor to allow you back into the test. If your instructor allows you back into the test, "retake allowed" appears in the column.
- Gradebook Score - Click the see score link to view the
percent score you received for the assignment. If the score appears with
an * (asterisk), your instructor has manually
changed your score. The following symbols may appear in the column in
place of a score:
past due means that the assignment is past due and you have not worked on it.
-- A double dash means that you do not have a score for the assignment even though you worked on it. The double dash appears if the assignment has an ungraded essay question. Your instructor must manually grade essay questions. After an essay question is graded, your percent score will appear in the column.
The double dash also appears if your instructor omitted your score from the Gradebook.
The table of assignments shows twenty assignments at a time. You can use the page controls at the top and bottom of the table to move through the list or change how the list is viewed:
- Click Next or Previous to see the next set of assignments. These buttons appear at the top and bottom of the table when more assignments are available to view.
- You can also click one of the blocks in the Assignments navigation bar. Each block represents twenty assignments, so clicking the second block shows assignments 21 through 40 in the grid.
- Click View All on
one page to see all your assignments on one page. You can then
use the scroll bar to view the entire list of assignments.
After you click View All on one page, the link text changes to View 20 per page. Clicking that link restores the grid to showing only twenty assignments at a time.
