Show your work
For some questions, you need to show how you got the answer.
The Show Work button or appears in the player when you have to show your work for a question. This button opens the Show Work window, where you can draw, enter text or equations, or upload images.
If your instructor has not yet graded your work, you can click Show Work and change the contents of your entry.
To show your work:
- Click the Show Work button or in the player to open the window where you show your work.
- Use the tools (detailed in the next section) at the top of the window to enter and format your work.
- Click Save to submit your work.
If you do not submit your work, your answer is graded as incomplete.
Click the Print button at the bottom of the window to print your work.
To show your work, you use the tools at the top of the Show Work window:

How to use it |

Select an object |
Click the Select tool and then click on the object you want to select. A blue box appears around the object. When an object (such as a line or math equation) is selected, you can move it around the window. If you select an image, you can hold down the blue handle in the lower right corner to resize the image. |
Draw a line |
Click the down arrow next to the pencil icon to select a line width from the dropdown list. Use the Pick a color dropdown () to choose a color for your line. Then draw the line. |
Erase |
Click the down arrow next to the eraser icon to select a width for your eraser from the dropdown list. Then move the eraser over the object you want to erase. You cannot erase images. |
Enter text |
Click the Text icon to enter a text box. When you click in the window, a text toolbar appears that lets you choose your font, the font size, font color, text box background color, and font weight (bold or italic), and paragraph alignment. When you have made your font choices, enter your text. To change a font choice, click the Text icon and then click on your text box to reopen the text toolbar. |
Enter math |
Click the Math expression icon to enter math notation like square roots, fractions, and Greek letters (e.g., pi). When you click in the window, a text box appears where you can enter your math expression. Click the blue rectangle under the text box to open the basic Symbols palette. The arrows let you move left/right/up/down in your expression. The blue symbols are templates. For example, if you click the absolute value template , it appears in the box and you can type a value where the blue rectangle appears: . If the symbol you want isn't shown, click More to open the complete palette. See Use the math palette for details on entering math notation. |
Pick a color |
Click the Pick a color icon to open a dropdown where you can choose a color for lines that you draw in the window. |
Add an image |
Click the Picture icon to upload a file from your computer to the window. Click and hold to move the image in the window. Hold down the blue handle in the lower right corner to resize the image. |
Choose a background |
Click the Background dropdown list to choose whether your drawing window has a blank background, a ruled background like writing paper, or a graph-paper background. |

Click the Pick background color dropdown to choose a background color for the drawing window. |
Bring an object to the front / |
Click the Bring to front icon to place a selected object on top of other objects. Click the Send to back icon to place a selected object behind other objects. For example, if you have a blue line on top of a yellow line:
You can select the blue line, click the Send to back icon , and the blue line will be in back of the yellow line:

Undo / redo |
Click the Undo icon to undo your last entry. Click again to undo the next to last entry, and so on. Click the Redo icon to redo the last-deleted entry. Click again to redo the entry you deleted before that, and so on. |
Delete |
Click the Delete icon to remove a selected object. If you click the Delete icon and no objects are selected, all the objects in the window are deleted. |
If you are working on a touch-screen device, the on-screen keyboard is not available in the Show Work window.
