Graph transformations of exponential functions

Using the math grapher tools, you can plot a transformation of an exponential function.

Plot a basic exponential function

To plot a basic exponential function:

  1. Click the exponential tool .
  2. Click anywhere inside the graph or press Enter to display the basic function.
  3. Use the sliders, text boxes, or checkboxes to change the horizontal and vertical positions of the curve, as explained below.

You can add more than one function to your graph.

Change the curve

To transform the exponential function on the graph, make sure it is selected (the line is orange). Then, depending on the function:

  • Use the sliders to stretch the curve vertically or horizontally.
  • Enter a value in the text boxes to shift the entire curve vertically or horizontally.
  • Use the slider or edit the value in the text box to change the base of the function.
