Graph transformations of x-squared functions

Using the math grapher tools, you can plot a transformation of an x-squared function.

Plot a basic x_squared function

To plot a basic x-squared function:

  1. Click the x-squared tool .
  2. Click anywhere inside the graph or press Enter to display the basic function.
  3. Use the sliders, text boxes, or checkboxes to change the horizontal and vertical positions of the curve, as explained below.

You can add more than one function to your graph.

Change the curve

To transform the x-squared function on the graph, make sure it is selected (the line is orange). Then, depending on the function:

  • Use the slider or change the value in the text box to stretch or shrink the curve vertically
  • Use the slider to shift the entire curve horizontally.
  • Use the slider or change the value in the text box to shift the entire curve horizontally.
  • Select the checkbox to reflect the entire curve over the x- or y-axis, respectively.
