Use the classic Assignment Manager

In the toolbar, the Create Assignments menu lets you:

• Create an assignment — Add a homework, quiz, or test.
• Create an adaptive diagnostic — If available in your course, add an adaptive diagnostic to determine students' proficiency in selected topics.
• Create an office grader assignment — If available in your course, add auto-graded office assignments.
• Create an office simulation assignment — If available in your course, add office simulations to mimic real life experiences for students.
• Create a Freehand Grader assignment — If available in your course, create an assignment, upload it as a PDF, identify questions by "dropping a pin," and assign point values. Students upload PDFs of their work that you grade online. Currently available in most courses.
• Add Offline Item — Assign offline work, such as class participation or special projects.
• Create Writing Assignment — If available in your course, create an assignment using Writing Solutions.
• Create a MediaShare assignment — If available in your course, add assignments that allow students to interact with media items, for example, by taking video quizzes, commenting on media content, and uploading and sharing their own media content.
• Create a GeoGebra assignment — If available in your course, add assignments with interactive questions for geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics, and calculus.
• Import/Copy Assignments from another course or a previous edition of your textbook.
• Copy and Assign Sample Assignments — Assign multiple sample assignments and optionally set dates automatically. This option does not display when your course has no sample assignments.
• Create Custom Question — Open the Custom Question Manager, where you can create your own questions to add to assignments in the student player.

This toolbar option opens the Change Dates & Assign Status page where you can change assignment dates and assign or unassign them.

This toolbar option opens the Individual Student Settings page where you can change assignment settings for one or more individual students. This option is not available in coordinator courses.

• Assignment Tags — Create, add, and apply tags to your assignments.
• Change Assignment Settings — Change assignment names and manage import and partial credit options for multiple assignments at one time.
• Change Categories — Change and add assignment categories and adjust category weights.
• Change Settings for Multiple Assignments — Apply settings to multiple assignments at one time.
• Delete Assignments — Remove multiple assignments.
• Reorder Assignments — Change the order of multiple assignments in the Assignment Manager and in student assignment lists.
• Set Prerequisites — Assign prerequisite assignments.
• Manage Custom Questions — Open the Custom Question Builder, where you can create your own questions to add to assignments in the student player.
• Respondus Monitor Proctoring Dashboard — Review student work on tests and quizzes with automated proctoring. This application is not available in all courses.

• Use the Show All and All Chapters filters to choose the assignment categories and textbook chapters shown in the table.
• If you use assignment tags, use the All Assignment Tags filter to show only assignments with the selected tag(s).
• Select a View option to view by assigned status.

To change the order of assignments displayed to you and your students:

1. Select the Show All filter.
2. Select the number you want to change in the Order column of the table.
3. Choose a new number from the list.

You also can reorder multiple assignments.

• (MA) shows after any homework that includes media.
• (Offline) shows after an assignment that students do off line.
• A green diamond shows before an assignment created in a coordinator course.
• A link icon shows for assignments linked directly from a learning management system or your eTextbook.

  If you remove or unassign a linked assignment, students get an error if the link is not removed.

• An assignment's gradebook category is indicated by icons: for Homework, for Test, for Quiz, and for offline items.
• A green check mark indicates that the assignment is assigned.
• The start and due dates show when students can begin working on the assignment and when they can no longer access it. If times are not explicitly set, the start time is 12:00 AM and the end time is 11:59 PM.

• Assign/Unassign — Choose whether the assignment is available to students.

  Students don't see unassigned assignments, but any results are preserved.

  You cannot change the assignment status of offline items or Learning Catalytics assignments.

• Edit — Change assignment settings, such as the name, content, and personalization options.
• Copy — Copy the assignment. Use the wizard to configure your copy of the assignment and save it. If you copy a test or quiz with a question automatically scored as correct or removed, you can include the question in the copied assignment. For the new assignment creation experience, configure your assignment on the My Selections page.
• Delete — Remove the assignment when it does not have results. Choose Unassign to hide the assignment and retain the results.
• Settings for Class — Change the settings for the assignment, such as due date, prerequisites, etc.
• Settings per Student — Change assignment settings for individual students. (This option is not available in coordinator courses.)
• Remove Questions or Replace questions — Remove or replace questions after students have worked on the assignment. Students get full credit for the removed or replaced question.

  These options does not display if no student has worked on the assignment. Choose Edit to remove or replace questions from an assignment with no results.

• Edit Study Plan — Change the coverage and mastery requirements for the companion Study Plan required as a prerequisite for a test or quiz.
• Run experiment — In an economics course, set up an experiment, run it, and view its results.
• Additional Settings — Specify parameters for interactive media and simulations (for example, Mini Sims) or questions with additional settings.
• Preview — Open the student view of the assignment in the player.

  To preview, add, remove, or edit questions in the assignment before students have worked on it, choose Edit, open step 2 of the Create/Edit Assignment wizard, and select the question IDs to preview and edit the questions.

• List Questions — See the question numbers, objectives, coverage, and number of points for the questions in the assignment.
• Change scores — Change the scores on offline assignments.
• Edit Item Info — Edit offline assignments.
• Print — Print the assignment. For example, print a test for students to take offline.

When you use the filter to list assignments in a specific category, a list of sample assignments in that category displays at the bottom of the page. (Sample homework is not available for some courses.)

Use the options in the Actions menu to view a sample assignment and then copy it to assign it to your students.

If your course offers preassigned work, the sample assignment lists also display the preassigned assignments. Icons in the sample assignments lists tell you how the assignment is made available to students.

Sample tests and quizzes are available to students unless you hide them:

1. Select Quizzes & Tests in the filter above the table.

   The Sample Quizzes and Tests table shows at the bottom of the page.

2. Select Set Availability at the top of the table.
3. On the Set Sample Test Availability page, select a chapter to see its sample tests and quizzes.
4. Clear the Available box for individual tests and quizzes or clear the box at the top of the table to hide all assignments for the chapter.
5. Select Update Availability. Select Done to return to the Assignment Manager.
